    Dr. Winkelman


English Teacher

Michael Winkelman has taught a wide range of English, Humanities and Drama classes at the high school and college level.  The dual focal points of his research are, first, Renaissance English Literature, and second, exploring how recent discoveries across the life sciences can help us to understand education and the arts better.  He strives to share these insights with students when they're helpful.  He is the author of various scholarly books, essays, and review articles.  His Ph.D. and M.A. in English comes from Claremont in southern California.  As an undergraduate at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, he studied Biochemistry and spent his junior year in Spain.  He enjoys swimming, theater, and the great outdoors.

Dr. Winkelman joined the staff at Newman beginning in the 2019-2020 School Year teaching English 1, 2 and 4 as well as Writing Skills.
