The Newman Parent Association is a vital part of the Newman family. The purpose of this organization is to promote, encourage and foster the educational, religious social and charitable activities and purposes of Newman Central Catholic High School of Sterling, Illinois; including the sponsorship of fund-raising activities and organization of supporting activities in the furtherance of the school’s activities and purposes.
For the school year 2008-2009, Newman parents will be required to sell 10/$25.00 Nexus Calendars, sell 10/$20.00 Home Sweet Home raffle tickets and to work one of the following fundraisers; Newman Golf Open, Newman Nexus Calendars, Ladies Luncheon, Newman Spirit Shop, Newman In-House Worker, NHS Presents…dinner/dance/auction or Newman Home Sweet Home Raffle. The buy-out amount of the fund-raiser commitment is $750.00 and does not include the raffle or calendar sales. Below is a brief description of each fund-raiser:
HOME SWEET HOME RAFFLE:
Each family must sell 10/$20.00 tickets. The selling time is from May 14th
(Commitment Sign-Up Evening) - August. ( Registration Day) Extra families are needed
to sell 50 extra tickets for their fund-raiser commitment. The committee is also looking
for five families to promote the sales of the raffle through the community businesses.
NEWMAN GOLF OPEN:
Newman Golf Open will take place July 25, 2008 at Emerald Hill Golf Course. This commitment requires families to work the whole day including the clean-up after the dinner.

NEWMAN NEXUS CALENDARS
Each family is responsible for selling 10/$25.00 Nexus Calendars.
The time frame will be from October 6 - December 1, 2008.
NEWMAN SPIRIT SHOP
Workers will be responsible for working a rotation of hours on Friday’s at the school from 11-3, football games, home volleyball and basketball games, Meet the Comets (including set-up and tear-down on this day) and at the Christmas Spirit Shop. Main responsibility will be to sell Spirit Shop merchandise.
IN-HOUSE OFFICE ASSISTANCE
Workers will be responsible for assisting the Development Department with mailings throughout the school year. The anticipated months for mailings will be June, September, December, sometime in fall for annual appeal and late January for dinner/dance invites.
NHS PRESENTS…dinner/dance/auction
This event is one of Newman’s major fund-raisers that require many families to participate. There are many different areas that you may commit; set-up, provisioning and kitchen clean-up, finance, valet parking, coat check in, clean-up, raffle, bartending, solicitation, and appetizers. The date of this fund-raiser is always the first Saturday in March.
