Powerful Libraries Make Powerful Learners

The Study of Illinois School Libraries

The findings of a major study were released, showing how student achievement is positively impacted by Illinois School Libraries. The study, commissioned by the Illinois School Library Media Association and carried out by Keith Curry Lance of the Library Research Service in Denver, Colorado, demonstrated that “reading, writing, and ACT scores rise when students have larger, more current book collections and computers connected to library databases and catalogs.” Lance’s report sampled 657 Illinois schools, comparing standardized test scores with the presence of school libraries and school librarians.

If you'd like to contribute to the success of Newman students by helping the library contact the librarian by phone or e-mail or visit our library Moodle!  We are creating wish lists at Amazon (see our Scrip program!) and Junior Library Guild for hardcover books at a great price!  We encourage reading and comprehension with AR quizzes.  Each quiz costs $2.99, if you'd like to help purchase some quizzes, contact the librarian!
