-The rabbi and his son fought through everything, together. When they were on their death march, the rabbi got behind, the son left his father. By this time, nobody cared about anybody else, all they cared about was themselves. Yes, it sounds selfish, but that is what things came to. Elie’s father held every bit of hope and faith. Without his father, he had nothing to live for. His father’s health was slowly degrading. There were a few times where Elie thought it would be easier to do what the rabbi’s son did to the rabbi, but within seconds of the thought, he regretted it. Not very long after, his father could no longer move, stand, or do anything. The other members of his bed would hit him, take his food, and in any way torture him. He was defenseless. It wasn’t his fault, but they didn’t care. Elie did everything for his father, he didn’t want to be alone in this awful, torturous world. Elie’s father begged him for water, he begged and begged, but it was roll call, so Elie had to be quiet. He just sat there, silently, listening to his father beg. An officer hit him in the head. There was no compassion, what-so-ever. After roll call, Elie saw his bleeding, dying father. When he woke up that morning, his father was gone, forever. There was no proper burial, or even proper mourning. All of Elie’s feeling, and dreams were gone now that his father was gone. He didn’t think about his family, all he cared about was eating and hopefully, surviving. Elie didn’t care anymore. Nothing disturbed him. Every bit of remorse was gone.
-Yes, every student should study the Holocaust. We truly won’t understand what those people went through, and all they suffered. They truly were dead people walking. We can hear stories, see pictures, and everything like that, but we will never experience anything like that. There are some cruel people out there. Some say the Holocaust wasn’t real, or that the Jews deserved it, but most of us have hearts. It is truly shocking. It is something that everyone should see, so they will know what the human race is capable of. It is also very interesting to learn about it, although, some of the things are gruesome. It just shows what the Jews went through. They kept their faith, stayed strong for as long as they could, and many of them survived.
On a few occasions Elie thought about leaving his father alone. He thought without his father he would not have the burden of caring for others. Elie knew he could never disregard his father so easily, like the Rabbi’s son, but he thought about it. The moment the thought entered his mind Elie was ashamed. His father was the only reason Elie tried to survive, and he knew without his father Elie had nothing to live for. When his father eventually died, Elie turned into a savage like the rest of the prisoners. “I spent my days in a state of idleness. And I had but one desire—to eat. I no longer thought of my father or of my mother.” (Wiesel, 107). Life came of little importance to Elie; he no longer felt any human emotions (not even pain or suffering). After his father’s death Elie become much like a savage animal not thinking of the death of his family, just caring about the never ending growl of his stomach.
Students should continue to study the Holocaust, because it is important to know things that have happened in the world. Reading the book ‘Night’ brings readers into the real life tragedy the Holocaust was. Reading books like ‘Night’ makes prevalent the never ending issue of prejudice and genocide. Newman is a school based on faith, this book showed how strong faith is and how far it can take you. It is hard to believe that the victims of the Holocaust could have had faith in themselves and God to fight to stay alive. This was a cruel, depressing, and terrifying book; 'Night' played with all emotions.
Rabbi Eliahou's son was selfish and didn't care about his Father. he left his father alone and run away on his own. at that time elie hope himself don't do the thing Rabbi Eliahou's son did,he want to stay with his father. when his father was fight,he didn't do anything, because he was afraid, he began to be selfish. after his father die he even didn't cry. he just care about himself.
students should read the books like "night". students should know more about history. and read "night" we can know how good we are now, it can make us cherish now.
A father and his son have a special bond between each other. A son looks up to his father, and wants to be like him. The bond between them can rarely be broken. Rabbi and his son’s bond was never broken. Elie’s and his father’s was the strongest. When Elie’s father was on his death bed, Elie never left his side. When he died, Elie woke up in and empty bunk. He in a way felt relieved. His father was out of the pain, and wasn’t suffering anymore. He also was sad, he wanted his father to teach him the way of the Jewish faith. But when he started to lose his faith, his father always told him two things. One, never forget who you are, and two, never lose faith. Elie had the will to go on and survive. He knew his father was watching over him, along with the Rabbi’s son.
Yes, every person should learn about the Holocaust. It is a part of American history and is a major part. People take for granted their life. Showing them and teaching them this will make them think about how good they really have it. They don’t have to lie in their own waste. They don’t have to starve, and be beaten every day. We have it made easy compared to what they had. It’s a real life thing that occurred. It’s not just going to go away, it will be with America forever.
Ellie becomes more and more like the rabbi's son as the book goes on. I do not think it was really a choice for Ellie. He was still a strong young man with hopefully a long life ahead of him. His father on the other hand was growing older and weaker everyday. The pure torture of the Germans was only making him die faster. This left Ellie with the choice to die with his father or just stay strong and let only his father die. I think Ellie made the right choice to let his dad die. There was nothing he could possibly do to stop it and if he would have kept trying to keep him alive he too would have died. It would have been a waste to try to save his father. This may seem sad that it had to be like this for him but keeping himself alive was the thing to do. It was not in any way a selfish move. Surviving the camp could possibly mean that one day he could be reunited with the rest of his family. If his father was to make the choice I"m sure he would have agreed without a doubt. In a way Ellie was doing the best thing possible.
2. All students should definitely read Night. It is a book that never has a dull moment. Students will not get bored with it like most reading assignments. Not once did i get bored when reading Night. The book picked up right away which I really liked. The book was also what i thought was a very interesting topic. Night is also a great description of how concentration camps were. It gave me a better visual image of how everything was. I would have never thought anyone could be treated this badly until i read Night. It was one of those books that you just want to finish to find out what happens.
In these chapters of night, the rabbis son abandons his father. He believes that his father is growing weak, and cant go on much longer. Elie feels the same way most of the time, but he lives past it. Often he thinks about leaving his father, but he really does love him so he stays. The bond they share is fierce. Even until the end of the book Elie never leaves his dad. He gives him food to survive even though it is destroying his body because he needs the nutrients more. He is with his dad until the very end.
This book is an exciting book with events that really happened. We probably do need to learn it in school because it teaches us the harmful effects of bullying or wiping out a race. We need to learn from mistakes of the past to learn in the future. It was a devastating horrific event in human history and hopefully it never needs to be reapeated again. It would be awful for something like this to happen again in the future. Maybe not quite like this but same idea using deadly atomic weapons. It would be great to live in a world with peace not concentration camps or murder.
1) Elie wants to have the same attitude that the Rabbi’s son has but he feels guilty whenever he does. Elie was trying to convince himself and his father that he will make it through but they both knew the truth. The reality was that his father was going to die. He wanted to believe that he was helping his father when he was giving him his food and water. During this time, there was a war going on inside of him. He was frustrated with his father and wanted to give up on the situation but he knew he couldn’t because his father was all he had. His father could no longer fend for himself when people would take his food or hurt him. Defending his father and worrying about him added extra stress to his unbearable life. He kept thinking that it would be easier to forget about his father like the Rabbi’s son. When the head of the block told him he should only worry about keeping himself alive and that he can no longer help his father, Elie secretly knew that that was true but would not allow himself to think that. After his father had died, he felt relief like the Rabbi’s son probably felt. There was one less thing to worry about.
2) I think students should continue to read Night and study the Holocaust because it was a significant part of history. Everyone should know of the cruel and devastating times the prisoners went through in the concentration camps. If people are aware of the horrific stories, hopefully, people will not allow history to repeat itself.
Through all of the previous chapters in this book, Elie cares about nothing but his father. After he realizes what the Rabbi’s son has stopped caring about him and wants to get a rid of him, Elie thinks this is the worst thing anybody could wish to happen. Elie says that he would never do that to his dad. However, these feelings soon and quickly change. Towards the end he views his father as a burden and hopes that he won’t have to “deal” with him any longer. In this one move, he instantly becomes a hypocrite. Elie wishes that of which he thought was terrible for the Rabbi’s son to say. When Elie’s father had died, he wasn’t very upset. He wanted to but couldn’t find it in him to be sad. Having to live through the horrible times of the concentration camp, must have had to have this effect on people. I believe it had this effect because right in the book we see two examples of this. Elie found his father as a role model, loved him, and held onto him throughout the entire book. Elie’s feelings about his father, do a complete 180 in the matter of 10 or so pages.
2. I believe that people should continue to read night and learn more about the holocaust. The holocaust was bad and who knows something like it may sometime happen again. If people forget about the past, it is even more likely that it could happen again. And it would be bad if it happened again. By learnin about it we can learn about and try to imagine some of the things the Jewish people had to endure.
Elie's attitude begins to resemble that of the Rabbi's son in many ways. The Rabbi's son as it explaine loved his father in the beginning of the story. They were close an the two wanted to be there for one another. They didn't want to be seperated. As the story continud, the rabbi's son felt as if though his father were a burden. He had to contstantly wait for his father, he had to look after him, and he had to worry about him. the rabbi's son became very self centered. He lost all hope and he gradually abonded his father. Elie felt the same in almost every aspect. He had to wait for his father, worry about him getting food, and always check up on him. Towards the end Elie wanted nothing more than to make his father be better but he could not. He soon lost all hope an gave up. When his father died, Elie was of course sad, and upset. But i believe he knew what was coming. His father died a long slow death right in front of him. I THink Elie felt that he had failed his father even though he had been there for him through it all whether he wanted to be or not.
I think students today in school should continue to study the Holocaust for many reasons. The Holocaust wass a major part of our history. It was a historical event that is unimaginably cruel. It was also very informative. It makes people today so grateful for our lives. IT teaches about our wars and how they came to end. Our american troops saved some of these innocent people. It is part of our background. The Holocaust was something that every student should know about. I think the book Night also did a great job making the happenings very clear. If students today read Night, there knowledge about this happening and about our history will expand. No matter what, I think all shoul read the book Night. It was an intriguing book and I learned so much. Although it was significantly sad, it taught me a lot. It also made me count my blessings which i think many young people today need to do.
Elie feels like he is caught between two decisions, be like the Rabbi's son and basically kill his father, or stay by his side until the end. Feeling like he would be better off by leaving him for dead and lightening his load like the Rabbi's son did to the Rabbi. Then again, Elie is compassionate and caring, therefore he chooses the right path of staying by his father's side and helping him get through everything, even though it was dragging himself on in the process. But then when his father died, Elie felt like he himself had died, that it was pointless to even live anymore, that there was nothing else to live for. The only thing that mattered to him after that, was food. He felt this way because his father was the only thing that kept him going, his only motivation, his only reason to live. That was taken away from him, so he felt that he too had just died.
Yes, students should contine to learn about the Holocaust and such topics, it teaches younger generations lessons about loss and about how different the world would be if it had happened. Knowledge can teach lessons, and learning and knowing more about topics such as this, will teach people valuable lesons that will no doubt be used later in life.
1.) How do Elie’s attitude and feelings towards his father begin to resemble that of Rabbi Eliahou’s son? What does he feel when his father dies and why?
The Rabbi's son had the courage to leave his dad behind, and that is something Elie just could not do. His dad was his rock, his strength, his drive to keep moving forward. They were inseperable, no matter what they would stick together. I believe their relationship was at it's strongest. The Rabbi fell behind, but his son kept moving. This action would be clsoe to impossible for Elie, but it soon became easier knowing there was just nothing he could do. There was no way that Elie could save his father, and he knew that. Even if he wanted to. When Elie's father dies he was very, very upset, just like anyone would be. He heard his father begging, and begging. Hearing this was heart breaking for Elie because he wanted to just step in and save his dad, but he couldn't. His dad was hit in the heard and he heard no more begging. That was the end, this was not the proper way to die or be remembered. No funeral, no mourning, no time.
2.) Should students continue to study the Holocaust & read ‘Night’ in school today? Give specific reasons for your response.
Yes, i believe that students should study the Holocaust. No matter how long ago it took place. We all need to realize that things like the Holocaust, no matter how gruesome they may be, do and did take place. It may not seem real to some that human beings are capable of commiting such an awful crime. We will never ever understand why or how somebody could do this. Some people say that the jews deserved it or that they should've seen it coming, but nobody should have to go through such a horrible event. We can read books, listen to stories, and look at pictures of the Holocaust, but we will never ever endure or even relate to the things they saw and went through. 'Night' is a very good books for students to read in class, it's detailed and graphic, yes, but i feel that it truely makes us understand, and it almost hits home that this tramatic event did happen and will always be remembered in history.
